Urge him to reject Penrith Councils LEP and protect all the Western Sydney Priority Conservation Lands within the Penrith LGA with an E2 Environmental Conservation zoning. More info below the form including a YouTube video explaining our concerns. YouTube video - Tony Kelly must protect Western Sydney's Priority Conservation Lands
The NSW Government has promised, in several of their policy documents, to protect vital bushland remnants within the Cumberland Plain of Western Sydney. The NSW Government calls these Western Sydney Priority Conservation Lands. The NSW Government has stated it intends to protect these Priority Lands in order to offset the clearing of vegetation within the massive Sydney Growth Centres and also so that it can recover the biodiversity of the Cumberland Plain. The policy documents that contain these commitments are; the conditions attached to Biodiversity Certification of the Sydney Growth Centres and the Cumberland Plain Recovery Plan What an act of hypocrisy it would be if the NSW Government reneged on this commitment and allowed the Priority Lands to be exposed to urban development pressures. Well that is what will happen if Tony Kelly the Planning Minister approves Penrith Councils draft stage one Local Environmental Plan (LEP). Penrith Council has shown no concern for the existence of the Priority Lands and seeks approval from Tony Kelly for 504 ha of the Priority Lands to be zoned RU4 which is a rural zoning allowing 2 hectare subdivision. The Deerubbin Local Aboriginal Land Council have claimed from the NSW Government (the Crown) about 1800 hectares of endangered bushland. They are seeking to sell off their claimed land and are actively opposing any attempts by governments to restrict development outcomes on their lands. Penrith Council and the Deerubbin appear to be very close and for some reason Council Planners have decided that high conservation value bushland - covered in threatened species - is best protected by a rural zone that allows subdivision. This decision is appalling and simply dodgy. If Tony Kelly allows this RU4 zoning of the 504 hectares then he has effectively destroyed any chance of the NSW Government acquiring this land for an addition to the National Parks Reserve System. An RU4 zoning will drastically increase the value of the land and put it out of reach for the NSW DECCW to acquire. Tony Kelly will condemn the ALP in Western Sydney if he approves this LEP. Act now email, write, fax or phone him!
